In last week's show viewers who watched Gok's 'Fill your house for free' got to meet the most fabulous family, Sara & Ryan. I really loved designing their spaces and getting to know them as a family at their beautiful home. This was my first home I filmed so of course I was super excited and nervous too! There was 3 spaces to design - their bedroom, the loft room Ryan's mum to come and relax and stay and Ryan's new office space.
After spending some lovely time with them at their home, I designed some mood boards to create their new scheme with the pieces we found for free and the plans for up-cycling some pieces too!
They had a great style in their family home from pieces they had collected over the years so it was a joy to be adding to their lovely, stylish boho home.
So here is peek at some of the things we did:
I originally came up with some calming, cool and cosy ideas for loft living as the space was to relax in, sleep in and make some tea and breakfast so I wanted to reflect the beautiful light, airy space Sara and Ryan had provided us with in the converted loft. I loved this starting image I found which set the ball rolling for the inspiration. (sourced on pinterest)
This was my moodboard for the loft space I created. Simple tones, beautiful interesting details all brought together their 'Style' for a calm and relaxing space for mum to enjoy. One of the free pieces was an old pine cabinet which I thought would make a great table to house the TV. I bought some wheels for the cabinet (from IKEA) so it could be placed elsewhere easy in the space - and also a nod to Ryan's love of industrial design. We sanded it, painted it and cleaned up the handles - and voila - a great new table for the TV!
For their bedroom - I wanted to create a cool funky space for Sara's amazing accessories, shoes and clothes. She didn't have a great space to really get ready in, and enjoy - so I wanted to nail this brief for her but to also create a really stylish bedroom for the both of them to enjoy! As you saw on TV - they had a LOT of pine in their home. To me, it had great potential written all over it - and it's easy to transform with sanding down and some paint! So we set about planning which pieces sat best in the room and then transformed! Sara had a really beautiful yellow throw that she was keen for me to use as a centre piece in the room - so we used contrasting tones to create an eclectic yet chic space.
For Ryan's man cave/ office - he loves industrial design so we wanted to give the sense of space more and create a space for him to work, climb and admire his eye for great design. I LOVED max's desk that he designed for him - was amazing!!!! What did you think of it? very very clever!
I hope you loved watching the episode - very inspiring and such a pleasure from my heart to have worked with the family and amazing team!
